Final Project Proposal
We would like to build a puppet (an almost life-size doll) in the image of someone we think is the most synthetic person on the planet/in popular culture right now- Heidi Montag.
The reason we have chosen Heidi as our inspiration is because we want to employ the most synthetic features you can think of so that it challenges the ideas of ideal beauty in terms of plastic injections and surgery as a form of beauty, our culture of plastic materials (toys, food containers- basically anything) and materialism (our constant desire to upgrade and purchase).
We want the puppet to interact with people in a negative way. We want it to make people uncomfortable by judging them based on their appearance or by ridiculing them and documenting this ridicule.
We haven’t decided how it will document or insult yet—Tweeting about you? Tweeting an image of you with a nasty caption? Something networked and instantaneous involving social media.
We’d like to use as much plastic as possible in the creation of our puppet but also for it to have the feel of a puppet by using felt; we were thinking along the lines of a Muppet. The networking will come from the social networking aspect and allow for people to read the catty messages sent by our fake Heidi.
